Working Bee at Forest Creek – IFF site – Feb 2025

We thank the students of Castlemaine Secondary College, 3 groups of whom came to Moonlight Creek recently and tested their strength by mattocking out some of the weeds in the areas where we and they will plant during July and August 2024.

The first working be for 2024. A good turn out at the IFF site on 11 Feb.

Progress is being made – to give you all hope that there is a future and that you can be part of it, the image below shows the recent condition of one of the patches at the IFF site – with thanks to our Wonderful Volunteers.

December 2023 end of year BBQ under the pepper-trees near Tutes Cottage. A fantastic cooked meal prepared by Matthew. We discovered needle grass in the area behind (former) Best Motors. Needle grass is a perennial tussock grass and one of Australia’s worst weeds.

The recently installed water tank serves many purposes – in this instance after a working bee at the IFF site. A very well positioned occasional table for morning tea. September 2022.

Planting on September 10th 2023 at Moonlight Creek – understory plants and grasses. The yellow mesh is our latest evolution of a protective barrier – to discourage grazing wildlife while the plants get established. At a point in time the barrier will be removed and reused.

A good turn out for the working bee on 16 April 2023 at the IFF site – preparing for planting now that the weather has broken. A very pleasant sunny day after the rain overnight.

Start of the 2023 Year – working Bee at Colles Road, 22 Jan 2023.

Preparation for planting in 2 weeks – IFF site 12 June 2022

We are creating patches at Moonlight Creek – this is a different approach to planting. We will not be staking every plant separately. Some of these patches are quite large and are intended to replace phalaris with Kangaroo and Wallaby grasses and other lower storey plants. Moonlight Creek Working Bee 24 April 2022.
