The purpose of our group is to enhance the natural environment of Castlemaine and Mount Alexander Shire and increase community enjoyment of our natural assets.
We aim to –
restore the urban waterways of Forest and Moonlight creeks to provide a healthy aquatic environment;
plant riparian and other areas to manage weeds and urban pollution and create thriving habitats for local flora and fauna;
provide opportunities for working together in welcoming, healthy and safe surroundings that create a sense of belonging to our environment and community;
support continuous learning that promotes understanding of natural values of the area, its ecosystems and the threats to its preservation;
partner with governments, agencies and communities to listen to one another, develop knowledge of our local natural systems and apply best practice methods to their recovery, enhancement and protection;
share with our landcare colleagues through working, learning and talking together; and
work for strategic decisions that actively protect natural habitats and provide beneficial outcomes for our environment and community.
We are very keen to involve more people in our work.
The best way to find out more about getting involved is to come to a working bee if it suits you.
Obviously you don’t have to have paid to join a working bee.
